Healing Crystals

Healing Crystals

Healing crystals have been used for centuries to help with all number of ailments, from the physical to the mental, headaches to stress. Here are 5 of our favourites healing crystals and what they can be used for:

Amethyst
A beautiful gemstone that is the perfect talisman. To use it for protection all day long, amethyst makes a lovely piece of jewellery.

Citrine
Think oranges and lemons and you’ve conjured up the freshness of this vibrant stone! It’s full of energy and is the perfect way to pick you up when you are feeling low or listless.

Tiger’s Eye
Traditionally used to ward off curses, tiger’s eye can be used to great effect in chasing away negativity.

Rose Quartz
The stone of love - what more needs to be said?!

Hematite
Encourages the flow of energy through the chakras and can help you through difficult times.

New Spells Section!

Hi!

We haven’t updated the blog for absolutely ages and this is actually because our Fran has a blog of her own (featuring fabulous witchcraft tips and free spells) and she has been doing a great job of getting information out there.

We wanted to let you know that we have recently added a new section on Destiny Charms that feature the complete kits of all items and ingredients needed for the spells on Fran’s blog. And the best bit is, we’ve managed to get a discount on these! Here are some of the spell kits available:

Full Moon Spell
Health Boost Spell
Love Spell for Spring
Spells for Festivals and Sabbats
Summer Air Spell

And more will be added as she writes them!

But it’s time to get back to some articles and posts on what we’re up to as we can’t leave everything to poor old Fran!

See you soon xx

An Easy Wiccan Altar

Setting up a Wiccan altar is easier than you think. It is all down to personal preference and choice - which isn’t necessarily helpful for someone setting up their first Wiccan altar! It can seem confusing and unfamiliar at first.

So we have put together a quick guide to some of the loose ‘rules’ and traditions to give you an idea of where to start. You will encounter many different opinions and viewpoints about what is right and wrong so feel free to pick out the ideas that you are drawn to and leave those that you do not feel would be beneficial. It’s your Wiccan altar and should be to your tastes.

  • Your tools or objects should be considered as male or female energies. Keep feminine objects on the left, and masculine on the right.
  • Your Wiccan altar should represent the core elements of earth, air, fire, water and spirit. To represent these elements you can have salt for the earth, candles for fire, a chalice or bowl for water and a feather or incense for air but feel free to use different objects if they hold deeper meaning for you.
  • Avoid clutter on your Wiccan altar. Easier said than done! There’s certainly lots to try and find space for sometimes. However, too many unnecessary items can disturb the flow of energies and make you less effective in your spell work.
  • Always keep your Book of Shadows handy and preferably in the centre, where you can get to it quickly. Try not to rely on your memory and think you can jot down any important notes later.
  • Consecrate your tools and, in fact, your Wiccan altar itself. This should be done when you set it up for the first time, but also if you are moving it or using it in a different location. Some prefer to cleanse it on a regular basis, others don’t feel it necessary. One of the simplest ways to do this is smudging with sage, but sprinkling with salt water is another good way. Prepare a chant if you want to strengthen the ritual.

And that’s all a beginner needs on their first Wiccan altar! The simpler the better - there’s plenty of time for you to develop your own style. If you would like to know more, try our article on Wiccan Altars for more details.

Good luck & have fun!

Reading Tarot Cards - Where to Start & What To Try

Reading tarot cards, whether for yourself or for others, is a life-long practise. You’re never going to know all there is to know and you will continue to learn and to grow the more you do. Which is actually what makes reading tarot cards so rewarding.

So if you’ve just bought your first tarot deck or are thinking about buying one, we thought that you might appreciate a few tips and handy hints to get you started in the ancient art of reading tarot cards. You never know, it might all seem less daunting once you’ve had a browse through these:

1) Tip number 1 has to be that you will not come across anything negative when reading tarot cards. The concept of getting a glimpse into your future can be a little bit unnerving at first, but you will soon come to trust and appreciate the gentle wisdom that will be presented to you. While the messages can be quite direct and to the point, you will find that they are positive and beneficial at all times.

2) Take your time. If you’ve ever had a professional reading, you may have been amazed at how quickly they can interpret the cards. But these people are experienced at tuning into their psychic side and can identify the symbols and assign them meaning because they are very familiar with them. In time you will also learn to understand your own feelings and intuition. But you must give it time to develop. So…

3) Try meditating for 20 minutes before reading the tarot cards. This will get you into the right frame of mind, and will help to open up your psychic channels. You may even find that messages start to come through to you in advance of starting to read the tarot cards so look for similarities between what may have appeared to be idle or random thoughts and the cards that you turn.

4) Do not be tempted to ask the cards the same question again and again. Very hard when you are anxious to get an answer. However, reading tarot cards under this kind of stress and persistence will give you very mixed messages that will not help you. Be patient and try to leave a couple of days between questions.

5) Think about alternative meanings. If you’ve asked a question about love, but the cards don’t seem to be making much sense for this area of your life, think about whether, in actual fact, the cards are trying to talk to you about something else, for example, work matters.

6) Get yourself a good tarot book to help you understand the meanings of each of the cards. When you become experienced at reading the tarot cards, the symbolism will be so clear to you that you will wonder at why you ever found it so confusing. But the messages conveyed are deep and profound, covering all aspects of life. No need to suffer while you learn- get help!

7) Try different tarot spreads. The Celtic Cross is probably the most popular and famous and isn’t a bad place to start, but try others as you will find some questions will seem more comfortable to you with certain spreads. A quick 3 card spread is also perfect for the more simple questions, and can be a good place to start.

8) When you begin to feel more confident, you can extend your collection of cards. Many professionals like to have a range of different decks to suit their mood or the type of question that is being put to them. Choose a deck that you feel you have some kind of an understanding with - a set which draws you in. This will make the messages from your readings all the more potent.

That should be enough to get you started! Come back and check this list in a couple of months time to see how you’re progressing in reading tarot cards, and you’ll be amazed at how far you’ve come.

Remember, if you have any questions or can think of any areas that you’d like us to cover, do not hesitate to get in touch and let us know.
